A timeline tool built for real storytelling

Free Timeline gives you a canvas to map time — fictional or real. Two distinct tools, each built for a different kind of story.

  • Universe: For fiction, fantasy, comics, and world-building. Map characters, factions, arcs, and events across any invented universe.
  • Biography: For your real life. Record milestones, relationships, memories, and personal chapters in a private, local timeline.
  • Everything you create is saved locally in your browser. We never see your data. No servers receive it.

Two worlds. Two stories.

Each portal is a different kind of timeline — pick the one that fits your story.

Stored in your browser only
Every event, note, and attachment you create lives in your browser's localStorage. No account means no server ever receives your data.
Works completely offline
Free Timeline runs entirely in your browser. Once loaded, it works with no internet connection. Your data is never at risk of a server going down.
Export and back up anytime
Because your data is local, you own it completely. Use the export tools in each timeline to download a backup and keep your history safe.

Any story. Any timeline.

If it unfolds over time, Free Timeline can hold it. Here are a few things people build with it.

Marvel & DC storylines Original fantasy worlds Your own life story Family history & ancestry Novel and screenplay plots Tabletop RPG campaigns Historical research Video game lore Memory journals Shared universe fan projects Personal milestones Anime & manga arcs
Back up your timelines regularly
Your data is stored in your browser's local storage — it is not backed up to any cloud. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, your timelines will be lost unless you export them. Use the export button inside each tool to download a JSON backup. Keep it somewhere safe.
